What can you and can't you do with the material you learn in my classes?
The limit between naturally incorporating knowledge and integrating it into your own style, or taking advantage of someone else's work is a blurry one, so for full clarity I will describe some different situations you may encounter. These are the guidelines I expect you to follow when you learn with me in person, in online classes or in tutorials and class recordings.
1 - I hope that you use what you learn with me to grow as a dancer, that is what these classes are for =) in that spirit, when working with me in real time in privates or group classes you are welcome to record yourself as much as you like and you can ask me to perform movements for you and record me for your own personal reference.
2 - You can of course share videos of yourself practicing what you have learned with me in your social media, please include visible attribution and credit (@polefiction) so that other people know where they can learn this!
3 - You may not pass my content off as yours. Sharing sequences, full combos, choreos or compilations of moves that I have taught you without credit in social media and then presenting them as your own creations, is not ok. As a reference, sprinkling a couple of moves that you learned with me into your own flow, or substantially changing them to make them yours: this is fine. However, making a video compilation for example of 4 edgework pirouettes for people to try out or be inspired by and using my moves for this, is not allowed.
4 - My classes are for educational purposes, they are not instructor trainings or certifications. If you are a teacher, it's natural that you might incorporate some of my technique, and build off of it to create your own movements and techniques. If you use what you learn with me as a base upon which to explore and come up with your own original movements and technique then that is fine with me =)
However, teaching my content verbatim or with little to no modifications or copying my methodology is not permitted. Let's say, if 10-20% of what you're teaching in your class is actually part of my class, even with attribution, you should refer those students to my class instead to learn that technique. Your content should be authentically yours to bring you and your students joy, and for me to feel respected.
5 - You may not teach any of my choreographies.
6 - You may not use my work for your financial profit or use it to promote your own classes.
Violation of these guidelines will result in you not being accepted to any of my classes anymore. When in doubt, please reach out to me with your questions and concerns! I am always open to talking things through and I can let you know what I am or am not comfortable with.
